Overview

We are seeking a Water / Wastewater Operator-in-Training for assignment in Ontario, Oregon. The selected candidate will operate and maintain water and wastewater treatment plants, including its treatment systems and related facilities equipment, on an assigned shift.

 

Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

 

** This position requires an on-call schedule **

Responsibilities

- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment to ensure efficient, reliable operation

- Perform a daily visual inspection of lagoons and treatment process

- Maintain samplers, take samples and record all data as required by the City’s discharge permit

- Inspect equipment such as control panels, pumps, motors, valves, gauges, compressors, chlorinating and dechlorinating equipment and analyzers for proper operation

- Perform routine custodial/maintenance duties to keep buildings, furnishings and treatment plant grounds and lagoon dikes in a clean and neat appearance

- Assist the Operator in maintaining the disposal area Buffer Zones, farm roads and fences

- Maintain logs and records as required by the discharge permit, the plant’s QAQC program, and DEQ/EPA rules and regulations regarding wastewater flow and treatment plant operation and maintenance activities

- Conduct basic laboratory tests to ensure proper treatment of water and wastewater within the treatment facilities (ie: sampling, recording of sample data and meter readings)

- As needed, operate City vehicles and heavy equipment or provide manual labor

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or GED

- A valid Driver’s License

- Prior mechanical and troubleshooting experience

- A valid Water or Wastewater Certification is highly preferred
