Overview

We are seeking a Water / Wastewater Utility Worker for assignment in Ontario, Oregon. The selected candidate will work in the operations, repair and maintenance of streets, water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems.

 

Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm

 

** This position has a pay rate of $19 - $20/hr **

** This position requires an on-call schedule **

Responsibilities

- Inspect, repair and maintain water distribution systems, storm drains, sewer collection systems and sewer lift stations

- Install, repair and read water meters; exercise valves; install and repair water lines, standpipes, valves, pumps, etc.

- Perform water shut-offs and turn-ons; repair and install manholes and cleanouts; clean debris from catch basins

- Work in all aspects of the street maintenance department; including: paving, patching, sign maintenance, concrete repair/installation, snow removal/sanding, etc.

- Operate, maintain and perform minor repair to light and heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, sewer cleaner, welders, etc.)

- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment and tools

- Respond to various customer service requests and report findings to lead worker or supervisor

- Use utility locator service prior to any excavation

- Report public hazards (potholes, fallen street signs, water leaks, etc.) to lead worker or supervisor

- Respond to afterhours emergencies within a reasonable time

- May assist other public works departments as needed

Qualifications

- High School Diploma or GED

- A valid Driver’s License

- Familiarity with hand and power tools

- Some knowledge of maintenance and construction; plumbing; and heavy equipment operation
