Overview

We are seeking a Street Maintenance Utility Worker for assignment in Ontario, Oregon. The selected candidate will work in the operations, repair, and maintenance of streets, water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems on an assigned shift.

 

Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

 

** This position requires an on-call schedule **

Responsibilities

- Inspect, repair, and maintain water distribution systems, storm drains, sewer collection systems, and sewer lift stations

- Work in all aspects of the street maintenance department

- Paving, patching, sign maintenance, concrete repair/installation, snow removal/sanding etc

- Perform labor involved in the construction and maintenance of water distribution systems: install, repair and read water meters; exercise valves; install and repair water lines, standpipes, valves, pumps; perform water shut-offs and turn-ons; repair and install manholes, cleanouts; clean debris from catch basins; produce a variety of records and reports relating to these activities

- Operate, maintain and perform minor repair to light and heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, sewer cleaner, welders, etc.)

- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools before and after use

- Report defects or needed repairs to lead worker or supervisor

- Respond to various customer service requests and report findings to lead worker or supervisor

- Maintain good public relations through courteous and prompt attention to customer complaints

- Use utility locator service prior to any excavation

- Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner

- Complete daily work activities according to work schedules

- Measure, compute, and convert English and metric systems

- Report public hazards (potholes, fallen street signs, water leaks, etc.) to lead worker or supervisor

- May assist other public works departments as needed

Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED

- A valid Driver’s License

- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

- A Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred

- An Oregon Water Distribution I or Oregon Sewer Collections I is prefered 

- Some knowledge of maintenance and construction; plumbing; and heavy equipment operation is preferred
