We are seeking an Instrument & Controls Technician for assignment in San Jose, California. The selected candidate will perform inspections, installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair to a wide variety of industrial instrumentation and control systems used in the production, treatment and distribution of pure water systems and waste treatment systems, HVAC systems, pneumatic systems, mechanical systems, environmental systems, and clean room environmental systems.


Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm


- Duties include building, modifying, testing, troubleshooting, or repairing equipment or systems of considerable complexity

- Exercises a significant amount of independent action, seeking advice from other technicians or engineers where deviations from the norm occur and where advanced levels of creativity are needed

- Performs tasks associated with operations and maintenance of Instrumentation; identifies and operates controls such as I/P and P/I switches and transducers, control relays, power supplies, temperature transmitters, RTDs, fire eyes, pressure switches

- Responsible for backing-up computer databases such as Metasys

- Conducts intermediate operation and minor troubleshooting of computer and communication equipment

- Maintains inventory of parts and supplies for areas of responsibility

- Trains personnel on preventative maintenance in areas of responsibility; understands preventative maintenance software and Metasys databases        

- Technician is responsible for Monthly and Annual inspections/calibrations as well as reactive repairs

- Visual inspection of gauges, pressure switches, and transmitters; This inspection includes checking for evidence of leaks, cracks, or any other loss of integrity

- Check gauge pressure reading against transmitter indication and vise-versa

- Gauges are verified with a pressure calibrator and calibrated/replaced as needed

- Switches are verified with a pressure calibrator/process meter and calibrated/replaced as needed

- Transmitters are verified with a pressure calibrator/communicator/process meter, and calibrated/replaced as needed      

- Performs installation, maintenance, repairs, calibration and testing on a wide variety of industrial instrumentation that records, indicates, controls and regulates level, flow, pressure, temperature and humidity, vacuum, position and environmental analysis and control

- Troubleshoots power and control circuits, programmable logic controller (PLC) and direct digital control (DDC) controlled systems; controls loop theory and application, variable speed drives (VFD) and associated components

- Makes periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all electronic and electromechanical metering, control & regulating instruments

- Lays out, installs and places into service new metering devices

- Reads and interprets wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings and specifications in making installations or performing major repair work

- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested




- High School Diploma or GED

- Minimum 5 years of experience in the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical control systems
