  • Overview

    We are currently seeking a Safety Specialist for a direct position with a leading midstream services firm in Channelview, TX. Our client owns, operates, acquires and develops midstream energy assets.

    Responsibilities

    The responsibilities of this position require the following:

    • Achievement of corporate and local ES&H goals and objectives under the direction of the Safety Supervisor. 
    • Advise management, operations, and project/maintenance teams as required to assure compliance with federal, state, local and corporate rules and regulations pertaining to employee health and safety.
    • Implement and audit the Safety & Health programs and policies for the Houston area assets, ensuring compliance as required by regulatory agencies and corporate policy.
    • Lead routine Safety Meetings and Site Specific Training for the Houston area assets.
    • Monitor the Safety & Health compliance of large contract and construction crews.
    • Provide Safety & Health support during non-routine and high risk operational events, including shutdowns, confined space entries, and other high priority operational tasks.
    • Evaluate working conditions and recommend improvements in Safety & Health methods, practices, and procedures.
    • Respond to Safety & Health incidents, report as appropriate in accordance to company policy, and lead investigations to determine root causes and complete appropriate corrective actions.
    • Assure that various required reports are filed with appropriate agencies in accordance with applicable Safety & Health regulations and regulatory agency permits for the Houston area assets. 
    • Conduct formal and informal audits of physical facilities and Safety & Health compliance related programs and procedures, and ensure resulting corrective actions are entered into the corrective action tracking systems.
    • Support the Safety Supervisor in the training, development, and implementation of the clients emergency response and rescue teams at the Houston area assets. 
    • Participate as part of the clients emergency response and rescue teams during incidents requiring emergency response. 
    • Support the Safety Supervisor during the execution of Emergency Response drills.

    Qualifications

    Education & License:

    • A bachelor’s degree (4 year) or higher in Safety, Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
    • Associates degree in Safety or Safety & Health field experience equivalent required
    • Maintain a valid driver’s license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company

    Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years of experience working with Safety & Health management systems within a gas processing, refining, or petrochemical operations. 

    Skills/Competencies:

    • The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
    • The ability to work within a collaborative team environment, with demonstrated personal drive and initiative to achieve goals.
    • Working knowledge of federal General Industry and Construction safety requirements, including PSM.
    • Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all affected teams, personnel, and vendors
    • An organized and detail-oriented self-starter with a strong work ethic
    • Ability to work self-sufficiently given direction and resources
    • Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise excellent judgment and common sense
    • Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision
    • Intermediate computer skills (Proficiency in MS Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) 

         Preferred Qualifications

    • Preferred consideration will be given for CSP, ASP or similar professional certifications
    • NFPA 1081 Advanced Exterior Fire Fighting for Industrial Brigades Certification
    • 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry
    • Extensive knowledge of the rules and regulations of the various federal and state agencies having jurisdiction over the facilities
