  • Overview

    We are currently seeking an E&I Designer for a contract opportunity with a prominent multinational chemical company in Clinton, IA. 


    The E&I Designer will be responsible for:


    - Preparing design packages using knowledge and skill in drafting techniques, procedures, and equipment specifications. 

    - Developing AutoCAD drawings from design sketches or vendor drawings and modifies existing CAD drawings.

    - Preparing construction documentation and drawings from scratch, sketches, or verbal instruction utilizing manual or computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.

    - Performing field verification to develop and confirm design package accuracy.

    - Performing related fundamental departmental support tasks such as updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making simple calculations, proofreading reports, compiling Bills of Material, specifying equipment, etc.

    - Utilizing information from vendor prints, catalogs, technical manuals, company standards, and industry standards.

    - Making sure work products are readable and include all pertinent information, notes and job number.

    - Checking that all material is signed and dated with job number.

    - Keeping supervisor and project lead informed of progress.

    - Supporting field assignments as required

    - Drafting installation details for: motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementary diagrams, connection diagrams, cable schedules, cable routing plans, control panel layouts, grounding (equipment and system), lighting, instrumentation loop sheets, instrumentation installation, and control system diagrams.

    - Performing in-the-field surveys, inspections, field reviews, and follow project execution.

    - Communicating with suppliers and contractors in both verbal and written formats.



    - 5-9 years of technical work experience or a minimum of an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree program for the relevant discipline and relevant experience in that discipline.

    - Basic drafting technology from a vocational technology or other applicable program.

    - Direct knowledge of different instrumentation types, basic electrical systems, materials, devices, and technologies.

    - Familiar with basic measurement technologies for Level, Pressure, and Temperature devices.

    - Working knowledge of National Electric Code and ISA standards.

    - Experience in developing field sketches and field wiring schematics to accurately redraw in AutoCAD.

    - Ability to identify instrumentation and electrical equipment in the field.

    - Ability to follow, modify, and develop flow diagrams, P&ID's, electrical schematics, and other drawings to create a functional design.

    - Ability to apply common sense understanding and problem solving to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.

    - The successful candidate will need time management skills to efficiently and satisfactorily complete work assignments.

    - Awareness of safety needs and considerations should be evident through both daily activities and in work products.

    - The candidate shall be able to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders via face to face discussions and email.

    - The candidate must have the ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
