  • Overview

    We are seeking an SIS Functional Safety Engineer for assignment in Houston, Texas. The selected candidate will support medium and large-sized capital projects at our clients engineering office.

     

    Hours are Monday - Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm

    Responsibilities

    - Technical resource for the control systems and process automation field specifically related to SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) Functional Safety (ANSI/ISA-84 and IEC 61511 - Functional Safety:Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industry Sector)

    - Support P&ID development; help maintain the P&ID’s through the course of each project phase

    - Support development of the Instrument Index and I/O List; help maintain the Instrument Index and I/O List through the course of each project phase

    - Support development of material / labor TIC and engineering / design effort hour cost estimates

    - Develop SIS Functional Safety scope of work documents

    - Support incorporation of SIS Functional Safety content into mechanical equipment vendor packages

    - Develop and/or support development of all SIS Functional Safety and SIS related deliverables

    - Participation and facilitation of Functional Safety Assessment, LOPA/SIL Assignment Review Meetings

    - Provide technical direction for selection of items to be specified, ensure compliance with client requirements and standards, check specification / requisition packages prepared by others

    - Prepare engineering specification and requisition packages for inquiry and purchase

    - Prepare technical bid evaluations and make recommendations for purchase

    - Interface with suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications

    - Review vendor data to assure specifications and project requirements are met

    Qualifications

    - Bachelors Degree in Engineering

    - a valid Functional Safety competency certificate or certification from one of the three major providers (CFSE, ISA, TÜV) required

    - 10+ years of experience working capital projects in the oil & gas, refinery or petrochemical industries

    - Current knowledge of EPC work processes and scope/deliverables for the various project phases; business acumen for lump sum and cost plus projects; business acumen for lump sum and cost plus projects

    - Broad knowledge of the SIS Functional Safety field including ANSI/ISA-84 and IEC 61508 / 61511; as well as the application, specification and installation of Safety Instrumented Systems

    - Proficient with the development of all SIS Functional Safety and SIS related deliverables; including Functional Safety Plans, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) calculations, SIF Lists, SIF response time calculations, SIL verification calculations, test plans, Safety Requirements Specifications, I/O Lists, Range/Alarm/Trip/Shutdown schedules, system block diagrams, cause/effect logic matrix, function block (Boolean) diagrams, logic narratives, SIS hardware/software/configuration specs, etc.

    - Experience participating in Functional Safety Assessment and LOPA/SIL Assignment Review Meetings as well as the facilitation of these meetings

    - Proficient with at least one SIL verification calculation software tool

    - Thorough understanding of P&ID symbology and presentation techniques

    - Experience in SIS hardware inspection, FAT, SAT, loop checks, start-up and commissioning

    - Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

    - Database Instrumentation tools experience preferred (SPI/Intools, ABE (Aspen Basic Engineering), Aveva, Comos, others)

    - PE license or equivalent preferred
