Overview

We have an opening for a Electrical Designer to work in the Houston, TX area.

 

 

Our client’s portfolio of specialty chemicals, advanced materials and plastics delivers a broad range of technology- based products and solutions to high- growth sectors, including energy, water, coatings, electronics, oil and gas.

Responsibilities

 - Independent development of the Electrical Single Line Diagrams.

 - Develop motor control strategy

 - Work with Electrical Equipment Suppliers and internal procurement organization to develop major electrical equipment order specifications. Major equipment types include:  Power Transformers, High Voltage and Low Voltage, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Variable Frequency Drives, Large High Voltage and Low Voltage Motors, Prefabricated Electrical Substations, Power Cable, Large UPS Systems

 - Participate in document reviews, performance testing and shop inspections for major electrical equipment.

 - Design equipment layout, grounding, lighting, cable raceway systems, basic power distribution including low-voltage installations, low voltage distribution, and basic medium voltage distribution.

 - Develop detailed equipment specifications, inquiry/order packages, job instructions, drawings, and installation details for construction contracts.

 - Provide engineering oversight during the construction phase including occasional site visits. 

 - Provide electrical system commissioning and start-up support.

Qualifications

 - Strong initiative and team leadership capabilities.

 - Strong interpersonal relationship and time-management skills.

 - Strong written and oral communication skills.

 - Ability to design in Cad Microstation (SE & V8i) drawings – AutoCad experience acceptable

 - Ability to interface with Smartplant Electrical 3D model, navigate model, review design, extract drawings, etc – 3D model of some type experience preferred but not required

 - Ability to create in CAD software the following –Initial Switchgear and MCC One-Line Diagrams, Symbols & Legend Sheets, Grounding Plans, Power Plans, Lighting Plans, Outlet Plans, Cable Tray Plans, Communication Plans, Panel Schedules, Wiring Diagrams.

 - Ability to create Conduit & Cable Schedules and Equipment Schedules using Excel Program.

 - Ability to perform load calculations and size equipment for panel schedules.

 - Design lighting & low voltage systems for buildings.

 - Perform designs in accordance with NEC, NFPA, and Dow standards

 - Ability to interface with clients if requested and coordinate design with other disciplines in developing electrical deliverables for construction packages.

 - Must be able to travel to plant sites (independent and/or with other project/design staff) to meet with the clients and coordinate electrical work.
