Overview

We have an opening for a Mechanical Engineer with pressure vessel design and calculation experience to work in the Houston, TX area.

 

 

 

Our Client is a global leader in the full service treatment and removal in caustic substances, as well as providing process technology, engineering and equipment to the oil and gas industry.  When it comes to the beneficial reuse and recycling of spent caustics, our client leads the way, turning would-be waste into viable and valuable commodities.

Responsibilities

SUMMARY

Provide technical support on MPT treating technologies in the area of mechanical engineering. Provide technical information and training to personnel in all disciplines to further improve product design and performance. Lead in all quality-related initiatives. Serve as liaison and technical lead for R&D activities. Mentor Engineers.

 

 - Directly interface with customers to establish a treating system that will perform the required task and meet customer requirements

 - Prioritize, organize and efficiently complete daily work requirements for ever-changing external customer inquiries as well as internal customers

 - Prepare accurate calculations, some of which are non-standard, PFDs, P&IDs, proposal estimates, and specifications on-time and within budget

 - Respond to Supervisor and client needs in a timely manner with technically sound positions

 - Proactively contribute to the continuous improvement effort of the MPT product lines

 - Calculate pressure vessel shell, head, nozzle, and appurtenances in accordance with ASME, MPT standards and Customer standards (where applicable)

 - Review and approve pressure vessel shell, head, nozzle and appurtenance calculations and drawings generated by third party manufacturers in accordance with ASME, MPT standards and Customer standards (where applicable)

 - Review and approve structural calculations supplied by detailed design engineering suppliers

 - Specify piping system wall thicknesses in accordance with industry practices, MPT standards and Customer standards (where applicable)

 - Fill in or validate material and mechanical information of data on equipment and instrument datasheets

 - Inspect purchased engineered equipment to validate it conforms to specified requirements

 - Conduct P&ID walk downs of Client manufactured technologies

 - Mentor Engineers to increase their skills and experiences

 - Assist Principal Mechanical Engineers developing assigned project deliverables

 - Achieve individual performance goals set by Supervisor

 - Continuously improve our commitment to excellence in  Environmental, Health, Safety and Security performance

 - Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

 - Bachelor degree in Engineering required

 - Mechanical Engineering degree preferred

 - Minimum 2 years of technical experience within the discipline working in a refinery, petrochemical, gas processing, E&C company or related industry required

 - Knowledge of specialized software such as Compress, Caesar II, Microsoft Office required

 - Engineering background in refinery or petrochemical environment with an understanding of PFD’s, P&ID’s, equipment and instruments sizing, and development of basic engineering packages required

 - Experience in performing ASME pressure vessel calculations, selecting materials for construction, evaluating pumps, compressors, exchangers and other mechanical equipment for acceptability to specifications for mechanical engineer discipline required

 - Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 - Ability to gather data, set priorities, and meet deadlines

 - Able to work efficiently in a team environment. Position requires providing support to a variety of departments and levels within the organization.

 

Travel

 - Travel 20% or more domestic and international

 - Must have a current, valid driver's license and passport

 - Able to be insurable under our company's liability insurance policy

 

Environment & physical effort

 - Able to work in an office environment

 - Able to maintain focus and analyze data

 - Site visits to refineries and chemical plants

 - Able to sit & use a computer for extended periods of time

 - Able to speak & communicate proficiently

 - Able to climb stairs and lift up to 20 pounds and exert force

 - Able to use hands to grasp objects

 - Able to see clearly judge distance & spatial relationships to distinguish objects as they are

 - Routine physical exertion, standing for moderate periods, walking, climbing

 - Job requires visits to oil refineries & Client Shop which may require climbing ladders up to 50 on equipment

 - Able to use personal protective equipment (PPE)

 - Hazards:

         - May be in an environment where toxic chemicals may be present

         - Site visits in refineries and chemical plants may include exposure to materials such as caustic, strong acids and hydrocarbons, potential for H2S exposure and requirements for additional testing (e.g. PPE, drug)
